Media Event for IK2Go on Hornby

This past Tuesday, the Glowbal Group had a Grand Opening for their newest location, IK2GO on Hornby St. Similar to their IK2GO location on Alberni, this place serves up lots of take-out options, but with a twist. There is lots of seating inside, with a long communal table in the middles, a few high-tops on one side and a few cafe style tables on the other side. What is the best feature of the space is it the brightness and the high ceilings. This isn't your average take-out joint.
salads
There are lot of salads available, each more inventive than the next. The first one here is the Tuna Salad, with lots of chickpeas, some borlotti beans and olives as well. Give me a few slices of bread and this could be the best tuna salad sandwich ever.
salads
I also got to try their Cauliflower Alla Siciliana, with lots of olives, capers and hints of oregano. This was really light and a great option if you are an olive fan.
quinoa
I was really excited to try this Quinoa Salad, loaded with quinoa, some chopped carrots, more olives and a bit of parmigiano reggiano. The sauce is a charred pepper vinaigrette and it goes very well with the salad. Just a perfect mix of crunch from the quinoa and carrots.
pasta salad
For their Pasta Salad, they add a healthy does of vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, carrots, onions and peppers too. The light grainy mustard vinaigrette is the perfect dressing for this. paninis Now, onto the Paninis! There is a Mortadella sandwich with potatoes & truffle aioli, a Prosciutto and gorgonzola sandwich, and a healthy Roasted Turkey with pickled chilies. One of my favourites was the Soppressata with banana peppers, asiago cheese and a basil pesto. The Salumi with mortadella, prosciutto di parma, salumi & provolone is a meatlover's paradise. There are also some vegetarian options, namely a Creamed Spinach one with watercress, a Grilled Vegetables one with zucchini, eggplant & peppers. Oh, and one more, a Bocconcini version with just Tomatoes and Basil, it's like a Caprese Salad in sandwich form. prosciutto Behind the glass case, you can see their other hot dishes, such as Veal Milanese, Roasted Chicken, Tiger Prawns and more, but I was fixated on this, a beautiful Prosciutto di Parma meatballs Ah, and here are the famous Glowbal Group Meatballs. These are delicious, meaty with a light marinara sauce. Just one is usually all I need.  desserts Also enclosed in the glass case are various desserts, such as the Lemon Ricotta Bar to the left, as wel as assorted bars and cakes for that mid-afternoon sugar rush.  macaroons And they have Macaroons here too! I didn't try these because I had my eyes on the Tiramisu. tiramisu Yes, this is the Tiramisu...gigantic with lots of ladyfingers inside and out. I don't think I could eat a whole one, but I was tempted to try.
desserts
Luckily, they decided to serve up a variety of desserts for us to end the lunch off and I got try a bite. And as expected, it was rich, smooth and decadent. The Pine Nut and Pistachio Pie toward the bottom of the plate was really good too. A nice dense tart with a strong pistachio flavour throughout.
